9 Ways To Awaken Your Alpha (Even If You’re a Beta)

When I find myself awake at night, it’s usually not because my neighbors are up to a bit of overly enthusiastic “horizontal jogging” (although that has happened!).

It’s the fear.

The fear of not being enough for your girlfriend, your husband, your wife, your family, your challenges, your work. The ambition of wanting to do and be more for yourself and others. The fear of not being enough will affect your behaviors on a deep level and can become a constant force of resistance.

Hey, I’ve been there, but when these thoughts pop in your head, it’s time to stop pussyfooting around.

It’s time to grab life by the balls and awaken your alpha!

Here are 9 ways to operate from a position of inner power and confidence that will literally change your view of what you can physically and mentally achieve:

1. Put On Your Big Boy Pants & Claim You Life

The first thing we all need to do is claim our life, all of it! What I mean by this is take responsibility. For the good, the bad, and all of it. Realistically, you all have a role to play in EVERY area of your life. No matter what happens, you have to acknowledge that, otherwise how can you make meaningful changes? Your inner Alpha does not play the “blame game” and is not a victim. Claiming your life will give you superpowers!

2. Don’t Be An “Average” Passenger!

Now that you have claimed responsibility, do what you need to do. This is your life, don’t just sit back as a passenger and see where it goes. Take the lead in your life; take on your challenge to create your ambitious life. Have an ambitious vision. Don’t accept average for yourself or you will get just what your asking for, an “average” life.

Keep your eye on the OUTCOME, stay focused and ready to take on anything that life throws at you.

3. No Complaining Whinny Pants!

Don’t be afraid to say no to things you don’t like or don’t fully stand behind. As I said earlier, you set your standards in all areas of life, so if you are whining or complaining about something (you shouldn’t be doing that either), STOP. Do something about it or “Zip it” Austin Powers style.

*Note – Gentlemen, saying NO does not exclude changing your baby’s diaper, that’s your job, unless you have “man flu” of course.

4. Say YESSir!

But, don’t be blind to opportunities and always say yes to the ambitious life you’re striving to create. Have you seen Jim Carrey in Yes Man? Interesting concept. But be clear about what you realistically want it to be and what you’ll be willing to do to get there.

Don’t just follow someone else’s definition of an ambitious life, sure David Beckham or Richard Branson have achieved a lot, but their own ambitious lives are very different from yours. So start saying yes to people, places and ideas that move you towards your vision. Don’t live the safe life where you arrive at the end in “perfect” condition ready to go again (pretty sure you only get one go, but don’t quote me on this).

5. Be A Hunter, Not A Lurker

Are you waiting for your next meal or are you going out to catch it?

O.K. yes, I will pretty much do anything I can to get an Arnold line in there and Predator is my favorite film of all time. However there is a point. Do you let life pick away at you until there is nothing left of you, do you lurk around waiting for opportunities to come to you? Make a stand now, before it’s too late. Get out of your own way to hunt down and create opportunities for you to thrive. The Alpha is a hunter and doesn’t become complacent.

This is a concept that was re-enforced in me after having lunch with Eric Thomas (ET The Hip Hop Preacher) and I try to never forget it.

6.Did You Miss That?

Your opportunities are all around you. The more overworked, stressed and run down you are, the less likely you are to see them.

These opportunities are not immortal. The life-span of the majority, if not all, are un-known. You have to commit to not just pursuing the opportunity, but to ambitiously getting the most out of each you decide to run with.

7. Make A Decision Already!

This is huge. Many times, not making a decision actually means NO. As I mentioned above, an opportunity is not forever. So many of us get stuck in the mindset of “tomorrow” or “when I am ready”. Don’t try to fool yourself, make a decision either way and move forward with that. This concept was brought home to me by being coached by and interviewing Kevin Nations “The Chillionare” who helped make me very aware of the consequences of my decision, or lack thereof. Your inner Alpha will make decisions quicker but be slower to change their mind when others doubt your ambitious plans (which they will). You know what your capable of. Think progress, not perfection.

8. Get Some Perspective And Change When Appropriate

Now your making proactive decisions about your life and making changes. You are shaping your mindset, your environment and starting from the inside out. Where the mind goes, the body will follow.

Through interviewing over 150 of the worlds most ambitious Alphas for my Awaken Your Alpha podcast, I have definitely altered my perspective.

Awakening your Alpha in life isn’t just about what you do or what happens to you, but more about your perspective. So go get some!

9. It’s Not All About You

I know I have talked a lot about you, your mindset, what you need to do to claim and create your ambitious life. If you JUST do that at some point, you’ll come unstuck. But be sure to focus on something bigger than just yourself.

So there you go, no one is going to do it for you, you can start right now by making a choice. Get off your ambitious arse and get cracking!
